Frequently Asked Questions

What is hair restoration?
:
;
We offer a number of therapies for men and women who are experiencing certain types of hair loss or thinning, known as male and female pattern baldness so they can look and feel their best. These effective offerings include advanced topical medical applications, laser light therapy, supplements and nutraceuticals, as well as regenerative medicine approaches to help stimulate natural growth of hair follicles.
Why do men and women lose hair?
:
;
There are many different factors that influence why men and women lose their hair or develop pattern baldness. These can factors include simple genetics, auto-immune disease, reduced blood flow to the hair follicles and/or inflammation. When inflammation occurs in the body, it can often reduce or stop natural hair growth.
How does regenerative medicine for hair loss work?
:
;

Our bodies produce a number of natural elements and tissues that collectively make up the “healing substances” our bodies use when we are injured, get sick, or wear out our joints and other body parts. These healing substances are naturally recruited when there’s major inflammation or overt damage in the body.

According to Harvard Health, “…PRP has garnered attention as a promising solution for one of the most challenging problems in dermatology: hair loss…. Platelets promote cell growth and regeneration. As the term ‘platelet-rich plasma’ suggests, platelets are generally about five times more concentrated in PRP than in regular blood. This concentration of platelets is useful, because platelets secrete growth factors than are thought to assist in wound healing and tissue regrowth.”

In a place like the scalp, where people suffer from chronic, long-term damage to hair follicles, or when people suffer from genetic-related hair loss, the body no longer engages the proper biologic process and regeneration mechanisms to heal the area.

Regenerative medicine leverages your own natural healing elements and reintroduces them to the area in question. That application triggers the body’s restoration and regeneration processes.

In the case of platelet-rich plasma*, these products are collected and processed into a concentrated solution that is then injected into the areas of the scalp where the thinning is occurring. Through this process, our professionals target damaged follicles, re-introducing the tissues needed to stimulate hair growth and allowing the healing particles to get to work on the repair. Studies, including a study out of the Mayo Clinic’s Florida Campus, show “platelet rich plasma found to be effective in regrowing hair.”

How do human tissue allografts help hair restoration?
:
;
Tissue allografts help rejuvenate and “wake up” those hair follicles that have slowed down their ability to grow hair. After the application, hair follicles are expected to restart their natural growing process.*
What is the process?
:
;

The process varies depending on the suggested therapy. Regenerative medicine therapies will involve cleaning and using an anesthetic to prepare the area that will receive the application.

Studies have shown PRP may be a highly effective treatment for hair regrowth, but other therapies may be used in addition to or in place of PRP for stimulating the follicles and supporting hair regrowth.

*The FDA has given clearance on the equipment for producing and the injections for PRP, the procedure itself remains ‘investigational’ and has not received official FDA approval. PRP is not considered a pharmaceutical substance (drug) because it is obtained from one’s own blood. (Johns Hopkins Medicine)
