Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a medical treatment that uses Bio Identical Hormones to optimize hormones that are no longer being adequately produced in the body. These bio identical hormones are made up from natural sources by a compounding pharmacy and look chemically identical to the hormones that your body naturally produces. These hormones can be used in a variety of ways such as creams, pills, injections and pellets.
At Age Management Center of New England, we’re excited to now offer hormone pellets for our patients! In this blog post, we go over everything you need to know about hormone pellets.
What is Hormone Pellet Therapy?
Hormone pellets are tiny, pellet about the size of a grain of rice that are placed just under the skin in the fatty tissue of the buttocks. This is a quick, in-office procedure with very little down time.
The effects of the pellet insertion lasts 3-4 months as the pellets dissolve and will be repeated to maintain even hormone levels in the blood. Dosing and re insertion are calculated based on each individual person’s needs, symptoms, medical history and underlying lab values.
What symptoms can Hormone Pellet Therapy treat?
Hormone Pellets can positively affect a variety of symptoms for men and women including:
- Decreased energy
- Low libido
- Weight/muscle issues
- Insomnia
- Urinary leakage
- Vaginal dryness
- Sexual satisfaction.
What are pellets?
Pellets are compressed hormones roughly the size of a grain of rice, that are made by a compounding pharmacy to contain specific amounts of hormones. Pellets most often contain Testosterone or Estrogen. At Age Management Center of New England, we choose specific amounts of hormones based on each person’s needs.
Why do some patients choose pellets over hormone injections?
Hormone Pellet Therapy is an attractive way to balance hormones for many people since it requires a sub-dermal injection every 3-4 months. This is a beneficial treatment option for those who travel frequently, have a busy lifestyle or for those who have difficulty injections or pills.
