As men get older, their health and well-being can decline as a result of decreased testosterone levels. While testosterone is a hormone that is often exclusively associated with men, it is also a vital part of women’s health and wellness. This hormone is essential to helping women maintain a stable mood, energy level, and sex drive. It also helps women construct healthy bones and muscles, and maintain concentration and focus. Like men, women can also suffer from a decline in testosterone levels as they age, and experience many of the same adverse side effects.
What are the Symptoms of Low Testosterone in Women?
While most women begin suffering from low testosterone levels later in life, levels of this hormone can start to decline as early as age 30.
As testosterone levels begin to decline, women start to feel a number of adverse physical and psychological side effects. These can include the development of anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and chronic fatigue. Low testosterone can also be attributed to muscle loss, lowered sex drive, decreased sexual satisfaction, increased pain, insomnia, and loss of energy.
Often, this collection of symptoms is dismissed as an inevitable part of getting older that cannot be addressed. This does the women that suffer from low testosterone a great disservice because their symptoms can be virtually eliminated with the right treatments administered by a caring, experienced physician.
