With Allison Gray, F.N.P.
It happens often – you feel tired, overrun, have a low sex drive and have gained unexplained weight, so you head to your PCP for answers. After running some basic lab work, they tell you you’re within the “normal range.” At Age Management Center of New England, we know that the bell-shaped curve of acceptable hormone levels does not always equate to optimal health. We look beyond the “normal range” and dig deep into comprehensive lab work as well as personal history to determine how we can get you feeling your best, at any age. To help dissect this further, we sat down with Allison Gray, F.N.P.
Q: Why does my doctor say I am in good health, but I don’t feel good?
A: Well, there could be many different reasons for that. Conventional medicine tends to address symptoms and doesn’t always identify and correct the root problem causing those symptoms. Unfortunately, a person can continue to feel unwell and walk out without answers until they are really sick. Additionally, the lab work done in a PCP setting may only skim the surface of the hormone imbalances happening.
Q: Can you give an example?
A: Of course! A common example of this is women and their thyroid. We see it very often where a woman comes in feeling out of sorts and is convinced her thyroid is off. This may be the case, but there are a lot of other hormonal and imbalance-related triggers that could be causing the symptoms. We like to do comprehensive lab work so we can see the full picture, and discuss lifestyle, diet, and other environmental factors that could be responsible as well.
Q: What makes Age Management Center of New England different?
A: I touched on this a little above, but at Age Management Center of New England we work hard to peel back the layers of each individual and address their unique needs. Whether that be diet, hormone imbalances, gut bacteria imbalances, supplements, or exercise, we create an individualized treatment plan based off of comprehensive lab work. As Dr. Bedecs always likes to say, “the blood doesn’t lie!” We want all of our patients to walk out of the office feeling like all of their concerns were addressed and with a concrete plan for getting them optimized and healthy.
